A number of GeoIP databases not released as scheduled yesterday

The GeoIP database updates for Monday, March 9, 2026 for the following databases were not released as scheduled:

GeoIP Country database
GeoIP City database
GeoIP ISP database
GeoIP Enterprise database
GeoLite Country database
GeoLite City database

These databases will return to their regular release schedule today (Tuesday), March 10, 2026.

Updates to user count data

Between Tuesday March 3 and Friday, March 6, 2026 (and possibly longer), we are making daily updates to the user count data to more often return a value of 0 or 1 for residential proxies.

Previously, approximately 50% of residential proxy IPs on single household IPs had a user count value of at least 2, and 50% had a value of 0 or 1. This update will make it easier to flag a high volume of customer profiles on a residential proxy as anomalous in relation to a lower user count value of 0 or 1.

Please see an explanation of user counts below:

User count	Description
0	IP assigned to a single end-user at a time (household, person, or small business), or not in use.
1	IP assigned to a single end-user with possibility of multiple end-users.
2	IP shared with multiple end-users.
>5	IP shared with many end-users.

Removing a number of suffixes in ISP/org name

We are removing suffixes (e.g. AB, A/S, Co, Corp, eood, Pte, Pvt, S. de R.L. and others) and the LLC prefix from ISP/org names to match their current naming and branding conventions.

What should I do? If you have rules or lists that require updating, ensure that you match on ISP/org names that no longer have these suffixes or prefix.

You can download the list of ISP/orgs that will be changing.

We expect to release these changes in new database updates and web service requests beginning Tuesday, March 10, 2026.

These changes will be reflected in the following products and services:

Updates to autonomous_system_organization, ISP, and organization data

Update to Japan NTT networks ISP/org name

On Tuesday, January 27, 2026, we will be updating a number of NTT (Nippon Telegraph and Telephone) networks to reflect one of NTT’s consumer-facing brands. For these networks, the ISP name will change from NTT DOCOMO BUSINESS to Open Computer Network.

This change is to reduce false positives when the end users of a network are dispersed all over the country. Many of the networks affected by this change are cell networks, which are often allocated across a wide area spanning one or more subdivisions.

IP risk snapshot output added to traits object in the Insights web services

We have added the ip_risk_snapshot to the traits object in our GeoIP Insights web service and our minFraud Insights and Factors web services. This field contains the risk associated with the IP address. The value ranges from 0.01 to 99. A higher score indicates a higher risk.

The IP risk snapshot is not a replacement for the minFraud IP risk score (ip_address/risk).

The IP risk snapshot is based on an analysis of historical risk on the IP address, while the minFraud IP risk score is a responsive data field that generates an IP risk score in real time based on the transactions you send and activity from across the minFraud network.

minFraud customers may find the IP risk snapshot output useful to determine whether an IP address is risky based on historical activity versus a current, emerging issue. A lower traits/ip_risk_snapshot score combined with a higher minFraud ip_address/risk score would mean that the IP address is becoming risky in real time based on the traffic on your and other customers’ networks. A high score in both ip_risk_snapshot and minFraud IP risk score would mean that the IP address has been risky for a longer time.

Client APIs have been updated to reflect this change.

New anonymizer data added to web services

We have added an anonymizer object to our web services. This object contains the anonymizer data previously found in the traits object together with new outputs.

Anonymizer data in the traits object is being marked as deprecated. However, for backwards compatibility, anonymizer data in the traits object will continue to be populated and the functionality remains the same. This will not be a breaking change.

We recommend updating your integrations to use the new anonymizer object, which contains data points not found in the traits object:

new data	description
`anonymizer/confidence`	A score ranging from 1 to 99 that represents our percent confidence that the network is currently part of an actively used VPN service.
`anonymizer/network_last_seen`	The last day that the network was sighted in our analysis of anonymized networks. This is in the ISO 8601 date format (YYYY-MM-DD).
`anonymizer/provider_name`	The name of the VPN provider (e.g., `nordvpn`, `surfshark`) associated with the network.

GeoIP Anonymous Plus database size decrease

The GeoIP Anonymous Plus database has significantly decreased in size due to an expected change to how we handle some low confidence networks.

A large number of lower confidence VPN networks have been removed from the GeoIP Anonymous Plus database. We have removed these networks in order to prevent false positives because we believe that the confidence was too low.

Postal code formatting in a number of GeoIP databases

Yesterday, July 28, 2025, we released a number of GeoIP databases containing a number of poorly formatted or incorrect postal codes. The impacted databases were:

GeoIP City
GeoIP Enterprise
GeoLite City

For a brief period of time yesterday, GeoIP web service users may also have experienced web service responses in which these poorly formatted or incorrect postal codes were returned.

This issue has now been corrected. Please ensure you have downloaded the latest database release if you do not have automated database downloads set up. Web service customers do not need to take any action to receive the corrected data.

We recommend automating GeoIP database updates so that you can be sure that you always have the most accurate IP geolocation and IP intelligence data.

The GeoIP Anonymous and Anonymous Plus databases will continue to update daily. The GeoIP Connection Type and GeoIP Domain Name databases and all GeoLite databases (except GeoLite ASN) will continue to update only on Tuesdays and Fridays.

Increase in geolocation database sizes

GeoIP Anonymous IP database release delayed

The GeoIP Anonymous IP database was not released on Saturday, February 15 or Sunday, February 16, 2025.

This delay was due to a small issue with our deployment process. This issue has been resolved.

The GeoIP Anonymous IP database will return to its regular release schedule on Monday, February 17, 2025.

GeoIP and GeoLite databases incorporate GeoNames geographical data, which is made available under the Creative Commons Attribution 4.0 License.

Note that the values for the old_ and new_ columns for a given field only differ for the field defined in the diff_in column.

* In this month’s update, a large number of subdivision codes have been updated for the United Kingdom.

Removal of deprecated fields

We are removing the long-deprecated fields is_anonymous_proxy and is_satellite_provider from all web services and all MMDB format databases. This will be a non-breaking change.

These columns will be set to 0 for all rows in CSV-format databases.

GeoIP Enterprise database

Update—Identifying Verizon 5g Home Internet

As announced in our previous release note, we are reclassifying a portion of Verizon Wireless networks in the United States.

In addition to reclassifying the ISP name from Verizon Wireless to Verizon 5g Home Internet, we will also be reclassifying the organization name for consistency.

Starting on Friday, February 7, networks that have their ISP name set to Verizon 5g Home Internet will also have their organization name set to Verizon 5g Home Internet.
